Company Statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19) – 17 March 2020
Solon Security are closely monitoring and adhering to all relevant UK Government advice and taking sensible precautions in relation to this developing situation.
The health and wellbeing of all our staff, customers and various stakeholders is of the highest priority, as is our desire to continue to provide our usual service.
We will continue to maintain regular communications and provide updates as and where required, both via email (if you are subscribed) and on our website. In the meantime, please see below the key updates as things stand.
Service Levels and Office Presence
In light of the UK Government advice around mass gatherings of people, from 17 March we will be operating on a rotational skeleton staff at our head office in Flint, North Wales.
The majority of our staff are able to work from home and will be doing so where possible.
The cloud-based nature of our ERP system, server access and communications mean we currently anticipate minimal disruption to our service level; though the nature of home working means we may not be as quick to respond to your requests and emails, please bear with us.
Our goods in/out operation is continuing, under close daily review.
We therefore encourage you all to continue conducting business with us as normal.
Email is our preferred option for communications; however the phones are still being manned
Younger members of staff, with no home contact with any higher risk people, have agreed to work through the current situation. We are fully equipped with disinfectants, gloves etc and are practicing full distancing procedures. We encourage all of our customers and stakeholders to assist us in this by conducting communications and transactions digitally wherever possible, i.e. emails and bank transfers in place of postal letters and cheques.
Impact on Supply Chain
Solon Security import approximately 50% of our stock from overseas, including China and the Far East.
We are pleased to advise that our policy of keeping a strong UK stockholding of key product lines – plus our decision to arrange forecasted contingency stock ahead of the 2020 Chinese New Year shutdown – has resulted in a very limited impact on our ability to supply customers and fulfil orders as usual.
Lead times have been affected on some new goods not yet in production, though a recent stabilisation of the situation in China has seen the vast majority of factories reopen and move towards full production capacity again. All of our freight forwarding partners in the Far East have continued operating as usual via skeleton staffs and/or home working.
Further Updates and Next Steps
Solon Security, like all other businesses, will be closely monitoring and responding to the now daily briefings from the UK Government, as well as developments around the rest of the world.
We will continue to follow advice and take all sensible precautions in an attempt to minimise the threat of the virus and encourage others to do the same. We also maintain a strong desire to ensure business as usual wherever possible.
We will issue further updates as required and encourage any questions or requests for further information to:
